Photography Props

Tutu dress: Tutu du Monde

My studio is filled with props and outfits which I use for newborn, maternity and portrait photography – outfits, bonnets, wraps, headbands, flowers, fabrics, wools, dresses, vessels and many other items of varying textures, materials and colours. Prop shopping can become a bit of an addiction for many a photographer and I have definitely fallen victim!

My clients often ask me where I find them. I have sourced them from all over the world – from Russia, the US, Europe and of course, Australia. Most newborn props are handmade using natural fibres. Newborn and maternity props are quite an industry, and sites such as Etsy are filled with keen vendors. I also scour op shops and local florists for something different, or the odd bargain, but I have also paid so much for some items that I feel I only work to support my habit! Addictions must be managed, so I am currently on a prop-buying armistice, especially as I have run out of storage space.

In my shoots, prop usage is complimentary. They are selected in collaboration with my clients when we discuss styling before any session.

Below (and above) are a few images showing some of my prop purchases.
