Why Have A Maternity Photo Session?

Most of us know pregnancy is not always as glamorous and alluring as it is regularly made out to be. It can be filled with weird side effects, stresses and a lack of control that result in women feeling the complete opposite of what many images portray.

This can put many women off wanting to photograph a milestone that for most of us will be an occasional experience and which really should be recorded, marked and celebrated.

Maternity sessions are best done around 30-36 weeks. It is very individual but the best time is when you have a nice round bump, so you are clearly pregnant. I ask my clients to wear a nude-coloured bra and underwear which makes for easy outfit changes and a more seamless look.

When you first approach me for a maternity photo session, I will always have a chat with you on the phone so I can get to know you, and understand how you envisage your ultimate maternity photos. I always suggest working with a professional hair and makeup artist, because I believe if you feel great, you will photograph your best. I offer outdoor or in studio sessions which are completely different looks and most clients are usually drawn to one. As I have built a wardrobe of gorgeous gowns (I have aimed for low cheesiness and simple classics with my gowns), clients can use a few for their sessions, and I always encourage at least 3 different outfit changes so your resulting gallery is varied. Some sessions involve fabric tossing, tummy wrapping, and tasteful nearly nude… my sessions are always fun , relaxed and full of laughs for everyone including your partner who is always invited.

The reason I take the time to do this, is because I want to capture the beauty of your pregnancy. I want you to feel incredible. I will strive to show your strength, your vulnerability and your beauty. Pregnancy is indeed an incredible phenomenon, and my hope is that with me and my camera, for one or two whole hours, that you can feel amazing and that together we can create and record the best of memories.

Below are a few examples of recent maternity sessions.
